POST MORTEM
I did not write this but it describes my
sentiments over this election. So I’m sending this to all my conservative
friends but I wish I could send it to my liberal friends but I guess that would
not be politically correct for crying out loud! And it would show how
full of “hate” I am….. ugh.
8 years ago, we the Republicans and certainly
us Conservatives were just as angry as you guys are. The people chose a man who
had no experience because you all wanted change. And you bet, our panties were
in knots too. But you know what we did? We got up the next day, took off our
pajama bottoms, put on our big girl/boy pants and we went to work, and
continued on. And for the next 8 years we worked. We worked to pay the bills ,
our taxes and the entitlement programs. And many of us took on extra hours,
another shift, a second job so that after the government took what they did ,
we still had just enough to get by. Paycheck to paycheck. We cut down our
Christmas lists, we cut corners and we cut coupons.
And when Obamacare was forced upon us, we had
to take on even more hours to pay for that as well. We worked sick because we
couldn't afford not to work and we couldn't afford the higher deductibles. We
didn't go to the dentist, because we didn't have free dental. We didn't get new
glasses, because we didn't have free eye. We cancelled our previously scheduled
screenings and we didn't go to the ER unless we were practically dying. And
many of us soon found ourselves with less hours because our Employers could not
afford the insurance and some of us had to take on a third ( part time ) job to
make ends meet. We didn't go out to dinner but maybe once a week, if that
,because we had to pay for utilities, our mortgages, car insurance etc. We
didn't go on vacations, because we had to pay for new tires, replace a broken
appliance, pay for our kids basketball sneakers, help them with buying a car so
they could work, etc.
We stayed home, and we watched the news. And
over those 8 years, the news got worse and worse. We mourned right along with
you guys, for those who were killed in that school, in that cinema, in that
church, but we blamed the killers not the weapons. We watched news of our
veterans not being able to get proper treatment, we watched those still in the
Middle East being killed in a battle that they were not equipted or meant to
win, we watched our embassy being taken over and 4 lives lost and no one taking
responsibility. We watched continuous riots every time you guys thought a black
person was unjustly detained, accidentally killed or in your words murdered.
And we sat there, shaking our heads in anger. We watched as radical Islamists
shot up night clubs, bombed a marathon, cut off peoples heads, and burned
people in cages. And then listened to the President not even be able to call it
for what it was. And we got angry. We watched as Conservative businesses and
non profit organizations were singled out by the IRS. We shook our heads as
gender neutrality and safe spaces flooded our colleges and TV screens. We
watched Confederate Flags and even our own United States Flag being made taken
down and Rainbow Flags going up. We watched our schools and our children forced
into Common Core and anything religious forced out.
And we thought to ourselves, this can't be
happening. Aren't we still a free country? We watched as business owners were
forced to provide services they did not want to do, we watched our beliefs
being trampled on and our rights being threatened. We watched the twenty
somethings crawl out of their parents basements and protest against Capitalism
while using their Iphones. We watched you reelect the same man, so you could
get your free phones. We watched Water's World interview people that didn't
know when our Declaration of Independence was signed and yes, in what year was the
War of 1812. Our countries future leaders couldn't even tell you who our Vice
President was. We watched in almost disbelief as people were allowed to stomp
on and burn our flag and chant "kill the pigs" and were horrified at
each officer assassinated. We watched, we lived it and we got angry.
We watched our kids turned down for
scholarships, jobs, free college, entries into schools and we ourselves were
turned down for jobs because we weren't a minority but were told we were
privileged because we were white. We were called homophobes because our belief
of marriage is between a man and a woman. We were called Islamophobes because
we wanted refugees vetted before entering our country. We were called hate
mongers because we didn't want people coming over the border illegally. We were
called racists because we believe that ALL lives matter. We were called killers
because we stand for the second amendment. We were told we hate women because
we don't believe you should be able to kill a baby with a beating heart in it's
mothers womb even though that baby could survive outside of it. We were called
crazy because we believe we should live by our Constitution. And deplorable
because we didn't hate Trump. We watched and we got angry. We watched more and
more government regulations and corruption each year and our country become
divided more and more each day.
But you know what we did instead of rioting,
looting, protesting and getting violent? We prayed, we found like minded
people, we found places to escape to, and then decided we simply could not take
it any longer. This country could not take it any longer. We got tired of that
anger and we got tired. So we took that anger, we united and we voted for
change. But most importantly, through it all, WE SURVIVED. And so will you.
