Where did "Piss Poor" come from?

Interesting History.

They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot.

And then once it was full it was taken and sold to the tannery...

if you had to do this to survive you were "Piss Poor".

But worse than that were the really poor folk who couldn't even afford to buy a pot...

They "didn't have a pot to piss in" and were the lowest of the low.

Tourboats ferry people out to the USS Arizona Memorial in Hawaii every thirtyminutes. We just missed a ferry and had to wait thirty minutes.. I went into asmall gift shop to kill time. In the gift shop, I purchased a small bookentitled, "Reflections on Pearl Harbor " by Admiral Chester Nimitz.

Sunday,December 7th, 1941--Admiral ChesterNimitz was attending a concert in Washington D.C. He was paged and told therewas a phone call for him. When he answered the phone, it was President FranklinDelano Roosevelt on the phone. He told Admiral Nimitz that he (Nimitz) wouldnow be the Commander of the Pacific Fleet.

AdmiralNimitz flew to Hawaii to assume command of the Pacific Fleet. He landed atPearl Harbor on Christmas Eve, 1941. There was such a spirit of despair,dejection and defeat--you would have thought the Japanese had already won thewar. On Christmas Day, 1941, Adm. Nimitz was given a boat tour of thedestruction wrought on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese.. Big sunken battleshipsand navy vessels cluttered the waters every where you looked.

Asthe tour boat returned to dock, the young helmsman of the boat asked,"Well Admiral, what do you think after seeing all this destruction?"Admiral Nimitz's reply shocked everyone within the sound of his voice. AdmiralNimitz said, "The Japanese made three of the biggest mistakes an attackforce could ever make, or God was taking care of America . Which do you thinkit was?"

Shockedand surprised, the young helmsman asked, "What do mean by saying theJapanese made the three biggest mistakes an attack force ever made?"Nimitz explained:

Mistakenumber one : the Japanese attacked on Sunday morning. Nine out of every ten crewmen of those ships were ashore on leave.If those same ships had been lured to sea and been sunk--we would have lost38,000 men instead of 3,800.

Mistakenumber two : when the Japanese saw allthose battleships lined in a row, they got so carried away sinking thosebattleships, they never once bombed our dry docks opposite those ships. If theyhad destroyed our dry docks, we would have had to tow every one of those shipsto America to be repaired. As it is now, the ships are in shallow water and canbe raised. One tug can pull them over to the dry docks, and we can have themrepaired and at sea by the time we could have towed them to America . And Ialready have crews ashore anxious toman those ships.

Mistakenumber three : every drop of fuel in thePacific theater of war is in top of theground storage tanks five miles away over that hill. One attack plane couldhave strafed those tanks and destroyed our fuel supply. That's why I say theJapanese made three of the biggest mistakes an attack force could make or Godwas taking care of America.

I'venever forgotten what I read in that little book. It is still an inspiration asI reflect upon it. In jest, I might suggest that because Admiral Nimitz was aTexan, born and raised in Fredricksburg , Texas --he was a born optimist. Butanyway you look at it--Admiral Nimitz was able to see a silver lining in asituation and circumstance where everyone else saw only despair and defeatism.

PresidentRoosevelt had chosen the right man for the right job. We desperately needed aleader that could see silver linings in the midst of the clouds of dejection,despair and defeat.

Ralph, age 72, is visiting London for the first time. He decides to skip the afternoon tour and explore the city on his own.

"Ah, yes," said the bobby, "Just follow me."

Ralph enters and finds himself in the most beautiful garden he has ever seen. There are manicured lawns, statuary, fountains, sculptured hedges, and huge beds of gorgeous flowers, all in perfect bloom.

Since he has the cop's blessing, he unburdens himself and is greatly relieved.

As he goes back through the gate, he says to the bobby, "That was really decent of you. Is that what you call 'British hospitality'?"

This is unbelievable !!

Just when you think you've heard it all, our illustrious Congress quietly comes up with a new zinger to put their hands in your pockets, and pick them while you aren't watching. Isn't this just wonderful ?

I was standing in line at the checkout counter at Wal Mart and as I looked at the line behind me, I saw a couple of people talking about what looked like identical new cell phones, bragging about the fact that their phones were free and so was the airtime.
The woman in line behind me had heard the same exchange and turned to the young man behind her and asked, 'Is that a new type of cell phone?' The young man replied, 'Yes, this is my new Obama phone. She asked him what an Obama phone was, and he went on to say that, 'Welfare recipients are now eligible to receive what he described as (1) a FREE new cell phone, and (2) approximately 250 FREE minutes of air time every month.'
Needless to say, I was a little skeptical about his answer, so when I got back home, I Googled it, and lo and behold, he was telling the truth. This was what I discovered:

SafeLink Wireless is a government supported program that provides a free cell phone and airtime each month for income-eligible customers. In other words, your tax dollars are being distributed to a wireless phone provider to provide welfare recipients with free cell phones and airtime. I don't know about you, but as for me, enough is enough. We are $14 Trillion in debt, Congress is balking at continuing unemployment payments to those who want to work, and Congress is increasing the dole-out to dead beats.

The ship of State is sinking, and it's sinking fast. The old concept of getting ahead through hard work has flown out the window. It has been replaced by Obama's and Congress' idea of Hope and Change. The country has changed all right, changed to "Why should I work for it, when I can get it for free?"

A Mexican woodpecker and a Canadian woodpecker were in Mexico arguing about which country had the toughest trees.

The Mexican woodpecker claimed Mexico had a tree that no woodpecker could peck.

The Canadian woodpecker accepted his challenge and promptly pecked a hole in the tree with no problem. The Mexican woodpecker was amazed.

The Canadian woodpecker then challenged the Mexican woodpecker to peck a tree in Canada that was absolutely 'impeccable' (a term frequently used by woodpeckers).

The Mexican woodpecker expressed confidence that he could do it and accepted the challenge.
